Interruption for Any Reason (IFAR) is an optional upgrade that gives you more flexibility if you need to cut your trip short for a reason that isn’t covered under standard Trip Interruption benefits. While traditional interruption coverage only applies to specific, listed events—like illness, injury, or natural disasters—IFAR allows you to return home early for virtually any reason and still receive partial reimbursement for your unused, non-refundable trip costs.

Some examples of when travelers might use IFAR include:

  • Feeling uncomfortable or unsafe at your destination.
  • Needing to return home for a personal matter that isn’t covered by your base policy.
  • Simply deciding that you no longer want to continue your trip.

To qualify for IFAR benefits, policies typically require that:

  • You purchase the upgrade within a specific time frame after your initial trip deposit (often within 14–21 days).
  • You insure 100% of your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs.
  • You interrupt your trip a certain number of days into travel (e.g., after 48 hours).
  • You return home at least two days before your scheduled end date.

IFAR usually reimburses a percentage of your unused trip costs—commonly around 50%—and can be a great option for travelers who want the freedom to change plans mid-trip without losing their entire investment.
